Basic life support and CPR for adult and child
Introduction
On successful completion of this course:
2 hours ‘verifiable CPD will be awarded – In line with the new 2018 EGDC verifiable standards. A certificate will be issued to the learner on completion of a short assessment.
You will also receive a Reflection log sheet. This allows you to reflect on your learning experience and can be used with the certificate as verifiable GDC evidence. You will need to gain 80% of the total marks. To help us to continue to improve future training and course structure, you will be requested to complete a short feedback form.
This course has been designed to update learners on their Basic Life Support skills. It aims to refresh essential knowledge to allow learners to perform CPR with confidence and competence in a work, home or public setting.

- Update 2015 Resuscitation council guidelines
- Abbreviations and their meanings
- AED’s
- CPR for adults and children
- CPR in the dental practice
- Requirements for dental practices and dental professionals
- Equipment for dental practices
(This subject is a GDC core CPD requirement for all dental professionals).

Course Aims, Objectives and Outcomes
AIM:
The aim of this course is to provide continuing education and training in key aspects of basic life support. It will give an overview of the key aspects in the 2015 Resuscitation Council Guidelines for both adult and child, while discussing the requirements for providing CPR in dental practice. This course should complement practice-based training, not replace it.
OBJECTIVES:
- To provide up to date information on the resuscitation guidelines for adult and child basic life support
- To discuss how an AED works and how an AED should be used.
- To explain the requirements for delivering CPR in a dental practice and the equipment needed.
- To give an overview on the current regulations and guidelines on CPR training
OUTCOMES:
After successfully completing this course, learners will be able to:
- State the sequence of steps used in basic life support
- Explain what an AED
- Describe how to use and AED
- Discuss the requirements for CPR in Dental practice
- Recognise the importance of keeping up to date with CPR training.
